Prologue Edit

DEMETRI: This is Demetri.

NHADRA: Mr. Noh? I'm sorry to disturb you, but I'm calling in response to your mosaic board posting.

DEMETRI: Who is this? How did you get this number?

NHADRA: I can't divulge that, but I can tell you my vision involved you.

DEMETRI: Go on.

NHADRA: In my flash-forward, I was reading an intelligence briefing, and I am sorry.

NHADRA: There is no delicate way to say this, but onMarch 15th, 2010, you are going to be murdered.

DEMETRI: What? What the hell are you talking about?

NHADRA: I understand why you're upset, but my hope is by telling you what I know, you will be able to prevent your murder from happening.

DEMETRI: Your briefing--Did it say who killed me?

NHADRA: I'm afraid not.

DEMETRI: Well, what did it say then?

NHADRA: That you were an agent from the American FBI, and that you were shot three times in the chest.

DEMETRI: You gotta give me more to go on here.

DEMETRI: What--what kind of briefing was this?

NHADRA: I'm sorry, Mr. Noh. I have to end this call now.

DEMETRI: No. Wait. Wait! Hello? Hello!

DEMETRI: Hello? Hello?

OPERATOR: I'm sorry. Your call cannot be completed as dialed.

DEMETRI: Come on!

Act I Edit

Lies at the Benford's Edit

CARTOON: We're trapped in here.

CARTOON: We have to get out.

CARTOON: I'm f-freezing!

CARTOON: At least you have fur.

OLIVIA: (on phone) Hey, Nicole, it's Olivia again. Look, babe, we're not mad, okay? We're just worried about you. So can you please call and let us know you're all right? Okay, we'll speak to you soon. Bye.

OLIVIA: Man. We gotta cover for Nicole again.

MARK: I can pick Charlie up after school, take her back to work with me.

OLIVIA: Are you sure?

MARK: Yeah. We're sifting through blackout intel from Interpol and such. I'll welcome the distraction.

OLIVIA: Okay.

(Doorbell rings)

MARK: That's Aaron.

OLIVIA: Aaron's coming here?

MARK: Phone's broke. Said he'd take a look.

OLIVIA: I just called Nicole.

MARK: Yeah, the problem's with my work line.

(Mark and Aaron move to Mark's home office.)

AARON: You called me from your work phone, said it was urgent. And now you're lying to Olivia? If you want to prevent the future and save your marriage, first step isn't keeping secrets from your wife. Take that from a guy who's already been divorced, huh?

MARK: This is different. It's about Charlie.

AARON: What happened?

MARK: You know she's been freaking out about what she saw, right? There's a guy we've been investigating. We've been calling him D. Gibbons. Charlie's vision had to do with him. She knew who he was. She said, "D. Gibbons is a bad man."

AARON: How is that even possible?

MARK: In my flash-forward, masked gunmen were comin into the office. Maybe D. Gibbons is connected to 'em.

AARON: You think whoever's supposed to be after you will come after Charlie?

MARK: What if this whole investigation circles back on me?

AARON: Well, isn't that always the risk with your line of work? And shouldn't you be talking to somebody down at your office?

MARK: Blackout's changed everything.

AARON: I'll tell you what I'd do – father to father. If someone's gonna hurt your family, the best thing to do is catch 'em before they can. The world's changed. Maybe the rules need to change a little, too. If it were up to me, I'd do whatever I had to do.

Zoey Flies Home Edit

PA SYSTEM (on airplane): Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome aboard Flight 82 for Los Angeles. We've gotten the okay from the tower to push back as soon as all carry-ons and personal items are safely stored. Flight attendants...

MAN: So are you flying to home or from?

ZOEY: To. Back to my fiancé. I've been stuck here since the blackout. But now that the airlines are up and running again... I hopped on the first flight they were offering.

MAN: What were you doing in Seattle?

ZOEY: I'm a lawyer – criminal defense. What about you? Why are you flying?

MAN: I have to. I'm the C.E.O. of the airline. All the executives are taking flights today... to prove to our customers that the skies are safe again.

ZOEY: How's that working out for you?

MAN: Gangbusters. (to cabin attendant) Another scotch.

Tracing the Call Edit

DEMETRI: Al.

AL GOUGH: Yo.

DEMETRI: Can I ask you a favor?

AL GOUGH: Sure. What do you need?

DEMETRI: I got a call last night from an unknown number. Can you have the tech guys back-trace it through the carrier and see if they can identify the cell sites it was routed through?

AL GOUGH: What's the priority on this?

DEMETRI: Nuclear.

Learning about Geyer Edit

MARK: How's it going?

VREEDE: Let me put it this way – I miss the good, old days when law enforcement didn't share their leads with each other. We're gonna be cashing in our pensions before we finish sifting through all of this intel. Kingdom of Tonga? Now who knew they even had an intelligence agency? They're blaming the flash-forwards on phytoplankton blooms.

JANIS: Well, I'll see your boring and raise you an insane. (reading) "The flash-forwards were caused by a toxic gas "that was released from deep within the earth as a result of crustal rifting."

VREEDE: So the earth farted, and we blacked out. That makes sense to me. At least this one's vetted by our LEGATEs in Germany. Apparently there's a-a prisoner, a former Nazi – A Rudolf Geyer – who's claiming to know why the blackouts lasted exactly 137 sekunden. Sekunden. That's german for "seconds."

(Flash Mark: Vision of "137 sekunden" and Geyer's photo on Mosaic Wall)

MARK: Wait a minute. The guy who sent this in – Do you have a picture of him? (Vreede holds out picture to Mark) That's him. He was on my board. We gotta follow up on this.

JANIS: Based on what, Mark – your spidey sense?

VREEDE: Something spookier. The Nazi's report... mentions Mark by name.

Act II Edit

Getting Permission Edit

STAN: Let me see if I got this right. We got agents working 24/7 to identify the two guys who were awake during the blackout. This week alone I've gotta figure out how to eulogize eight dead agents, and you want to fly to Germany to talk to a Nazi?

MARK: Well, a former Nazi.

STAN: Well, that just makes me feel so much better.

MARK: Geyer requested a meeting with me specifically.

STAN: How does he even know you?

MARK: I have no idea, but he says he can explain why the blackout lasted 137 seconds, and he won't talk unless I see him face-to-face.

STAN: And in the meantime, you're getting nowhere with tracking down Suspect Zero or D. Gibbons.

MARK: N.S.A.'s still working on the Suspect Zero video. And we're running down digital forensics from D. Gibbons' cell phone. For all we know, it's Geyer's information that will lead us to them.

STAN: Book the flights.

Meeting Zoey Edit

(Demetri meets Zoey at the airport under a Key Star Air sign)

ZOEY: I thought I was never gonna see you again.

DEMETRI: Me, too.

ZOEY: So can I tell you now?

DEMETRI: Tell me what?

ZOEY: What I saw in my flash-forward.

DEMETRI: Zo –

ZOEY: What's the big deal, babe? It's not like we didn't see the same thing.

(Demetri gives Zoey some flowers.)

DEMETRI: Here. We could talk, or...

ZOEY: Or?

DEMETRI: Or we could go to a motel...

ZOEY: Oh! I like your thinking, stranger.

At the Bar Edit

KATE: What can I get you?

AARON: Just a soda water, Kate.

KATE: What the hell are you doing here?

AARON: Our daughter's alive, Kate. I saw her during the blackout. In my vision, I was with her. She was wounded. I th--I think it might have been somewhere in Afghanistan.

KATE: Are you sure you weren't dead? Maybe you were in heaven with her. Hey, you might want to check on that with your higher power.

AARON: I'm serious, Kate. You know what people have been saying. This thing is real – glimpses of what's to come.

KATE: What's to come? You want to know what I saw? (motions) This. I was doing the same thing I'm doing now, same thing I've been doing the past five years. And those sorry-ass regulars there? They were here, too. What you saw was wishful thinking. Let her go, Aaron.

AARON: I can't. Not when I know she needs me. She's out there. I'm positive.

KATE: She's dead! She's buried! This isn't about some vision. This is about you coming up with a fantasy because you feel guilty, 'cause you're the reason she went into the military in the first place.

AARON: That's not true.

KATE: No, of course it is. She's daddy's little girl, following in your footsteps. Why are you doing this, anyway? - What do you want from me, anyway?

(Kate walks around end of bar, grabs Aaron and pushes him toward the door.)

AARON: Hey. Stop, stop. It's all right. I just want your signature. I need you to sign an affidavit so I can exhume her remains.

KATE: Well, you're not gonna get it, Aaron. Why don't you just take this and go?

AARON: I'm gonna find her, Kate, whether you help me or not. And when I do, I'll let you know.

Zoey and Demetri Edit

(Zoey and Demetri are lying in bed.)

ZOEY: That's the second time I've blacked out this week. Now can I tell you about what I saw?

DEMETRI: Okay.

ZOEY: It was our wedding. It was on a beach – Hamoa beach in Hawaii, I think, where we went last spring.

Flash: Zoey

(Zoey is walking along a beach approaching a group of people dressed in white; one is standing facing the others.
ZOEY: It was so peaceful. The wind and – and the waves...

ZOEY: Everything was perfect.

DEMETRI: And you saw me there?

ZOEY: Yeah. Did you see me?

DEMETRI: Yeah. Of course I saw you... In that white dress... Barefoot. Baby, you were so beautiful. It's just like you described.

ZOEY: You realize that's gonna be our wedding day, don't you?

DEMETRI: April 29th? D-Day? All that's happened, baby, I'm not sure we should... commit to a date.

ZOEY: We already have. So... Can't you just... fall back... Let the future happen like it's supposed to?

Arriving at Quale Edit

243 00:13:17,794 --> 00:13:18,872 Welcome to Munich.

244 00:13:18,907 --> 00:13:20,665 Agent Benford, Agent Hawk.

245 00:13:21,155 --> 00:13:22,483 - Stefan Krieger. - Hello.

246 00:13:24,621 --> 00:13:27,238 I'll be your B.N.D. liaison during your stay.

247 00:13:27,775 --> 00:13:30,126 Thanks for arranging this meeting on such short notice.

248 00:13:30,609 --> 00:13:34,062 You're here as guests of the German government.

249 00:13:34,097 --> 00:13:35,745 As such, you have no actual authority

250 00:13:35,780 --> 00:13:38,516 and will proceed with appropriate decorum. Agreed?

251 00:13:39,182 --> 00:13:39,925 Agreed.

252 00:13:40,307 --> 00:13:42,060 There are a lot of ghosts here.

253 00:13:43,016 --> 00:13:45,090 Isn't this where Sophie Scholl

254 00:13:45,125 --> 00:13:47,407 and the rest of the White Rose Nazi resistance group

255 00:13:47,442 --> 00:13:48,700 were executed?

256 00:13:50,367 --> 00:13:52,401 If I'm not mistaken, your country eradicated

257 00:13:52,436 --> 00:13:54,073 it's indigenous Indian population

258 00:13:54,108 --> 00:13:58,769 and practiced institutionalized slavery for over 250 years.

259 00:13:59,656 --> 00:14:01,639 We also gave the world Britney Spears.

260 00:14:03,977 --> 00:14:05,679 Rudolf Geyer may present himself

261 00:14:05,714 --> 00:14:08,245 as a frail, forgetful old man,

262 00:14:09,111 --> 00:14:11,243 but I should remind you that he managed to elude capture

263 00:14:11,278 --> 00:14:12,808 for more than half a century.

264 00:14:12,897 --> 00:14:14,637 Spending at least 20 of those years

265 00:14:14,717 --> 00:14:19,059 within your own U.S. borders. He's an unrepentant murderer.

266 00:14:19,624 --> 00:14:21,206 His entire existence

267 00:14:21,241 --> 00:14:23,614 has been based on dissemblance and falsehood.

268 00:14:25,068 --> 00:14:26,430 Never forget that.

269 00:14:30,598 --> 00:14:31,569 Herr Geyer.

270 00:14:38,565 --> 00:14:39,556 Gentlemen...

271 00:14:40,308 --> 00:14:41,582 and lady.

272 00:14:45,411 --> 00:14:49,167 I've looked forward to meeting you, Herr Benford.

273 00:14:49,423 --> 00:14:50,943 For quite some time.

Act III Edit

274 00:14:56,027 --> 00:14:59,648 - How did you know my name? - I saw it in my vision.

275 00:15:01,647 --> 00:15:03,903 You said you had information about the flash-forward,

276 00:15:04,245 --> 00:15:06,122 about how long they lasted.

277 00:15:06,157 --> 00:15:09,037 It's not quite that simple, I'm afraid.

278 00:15:09,072 --> 00:15:12,167 You see, before my unfortunate incarceration,

279 00:15:12,202 --> 00:15:13,887 I lived in America,

280 00:15:13,977 --> 00:15:17,831 and I learned how you can't get something for nothing.

281 00:15:18,334 --> 00:15:19,833 We've anticipated this, Herr Geyer.

282 00:15:19,901 --> 00:15:22,156 Upon verification of your information,

283 00:15:22,191 --> 00:15:25,688 you will be transferred to a minimum security facility.

284 00:15:27,885 --> 00:15:31,845 But I had more than a gesture in mind.

285 00:15:32,448 --> 00:15:34,681 I want to return to America,

286 00:15:35,863 --> 00:15:38,067 and all charges against me...

287 00:15:38,267 --> 00:15:39,284 are dropped.

288 00:15:43,028 --> 00:15:43,656 You're dreaming.

289 00:15:43,726 --> 00:15:45,259 I'm not permitting my client

290 00:15:45,260 --> 00:15:46,793 to breathe a word of what he knows

291 00:15:47,195 --> 00:15:49,640 without getting his pardon first.

292 00:15:52,220 --> 00:15:54,853 I believe we have what's called

293 00:15:54,888 --> 00:15:55,836 a game of chicken.

294 00:15:55,903 --> 00:15:58,207 Who do you think will blink first?

295 00:15:58,208 --> 00:16:00,738 Before you answer, consider the fact

296 00:16:01,309 --> 00:16:03,667 I have nothing to lose.

297 00:16:06,981 --> 00:16:08,685 He's playing us.

298 00:16:08,883 --> 00:16:10,808 Think about it. This is win-win for him.

299 00:16:10,843 --> 00:16:12,837 At best, he's just jerking us around

300 00:16:12,838 --> 00:16:15,454 for a few days' entertainment, and at worst he goes free,

301 00:16:15,505 --> 00:16:16,930 - and we have no-- - We'll figure out a way

302 00:16:16,965 --> 00:16:18,317 to cover ourselves if he's lying.

303 00:16:18,377 --> 00:16:19,208 No, you heard his lawyer.

304 00:16:19,266 --> 00:16:21,228 They're not gonna let us cover ourselves.

305 00:16:21,327 --> 00:16:23,528 Mark, this is full pardon or nothing,

306 00:16:23,596 --> 00:16:25,010 and that's exactly what Geyer's gonna give us.

307 00:16:25,060 --> 00:16:25,847 We don't know that.

308 00:16:25,905 --> 00:16:27,026 The only thing we know is

309 00:16:27,061 --> 00:16:29,062 Geyer's important to our case six months from now,

310 00:16:29,097 --> 00:16:30,769 - which means, Janis-- - Yeah, listen to yourself.

311 00:16:30,837 --> 00:16:33,072 - I am listening. - Mark, six months from now?

312 00:16:33,653 --> 00:16:34,186 Come on.

313 00:16:34,221 --> 00:16:36,961 The only thing we know at this point is how much we don't know.

314 00:16:36,996 --> 00:16:40,402 Mark, you're talking about letting a mass murderer go free

315 00:16:40,437 --> 00:16:43,391 in exchange for potentially nothing.

316 00:16:43,426 --> 00:16:45,501 Janis, there are several billion people--

317 00:16:45,536 --> 00:16:48,110 several billion-- who need answers.

318 00:16:48,612 --> 00:16:50,017 That's not nothing.

319 00:16:50,571 --> 00:16:51,795 They need to know why it happened,

320 00:16:51,830 --> 00:16:53,152 whether it'll happen again.

321 00:16:53,587 --> 00:16:55,200 The guy makes me sick.

322 00:16:56,317 --> 00:16:58,797 But he's 86 years old. He's on his way out.

323 00:16:59,510 --> 00:17:01,930 And as much as I'd like to personally help him on his way,

324 00:17:01,965 --> 00:17:04,981 I have to ask myself if the ends don't justify the means here.

325 00:17:05,634 --> 00:17:08,000 They never do, Mark.

326 00:17:08,068 --> 00:17:10,035 And you know, Geyer's age is irrelevant.

327 00:17:10,103 --> 00:17:12,606 There's no statute of limitations on evil.

328 00:17:12,641 --> 00:17:14,182 Geyer deserves his punishment,

329 00:17:14,382 --> 00:17:16,482 and his victims deserve him getting that punishment,

330 00:17:16,554 --> 00:17:19,497 and you can't take that, away from them on a hope.

331 00:17:23,257 --> 00:17:24,850 So how's Mark handling all of this?

332 00:17:24,918 --> 00:17:26,983 The usual way-- throwing himself into work.

333 00:17:27,187 --> 00:17:29,011 - How about Stan? - The same.

334 00:17:29,583 --> 00:17:31,621 Since becoming bureau assistant director,

335 00:17:31,656 --> 00:17:33,607 he's convinced he has to work twice as hard

336 00:17:33,642 --> 00:17:34,897 as everybody else in the bureau.

337 00:17:34,932 --> 00:17:35,428 Mm.

338 00:17:35,429 --> 00:17:37,009 He's pulled two all-nighters in a row,

339 00:17:37,068 --> 00:17:40,012 working on this eulogy for the--the memorial service.

340 00:17:40,615 --> 00:17:42,374 Like if he found just the right words,

341 00:17:42,409 --> 00:17:44,110 he could bring these agents back to life.

342 00:17:44,111 --> 00:17:46,568 Well, Mark's convinced that what he saw in his flash-forward

343 00:17:46,603 --> 00:17:47,716 is somehow going to save us all.

344 00:17:47,806 --> 00:17:50,271 So Mark saw himself saving the world,

345 00:17:50,306 --> 00:17:51,637 and what did you see?

346 00:17:53,108 --> 00:17:53,927 Hey, honey.

347 00:17:55,845 --> 00:17:57,317 Nothing important.

348 00:17:57,352 --> 00:17:58,533 How about you?

349 00:17:58,585 --> 00:17:59,585 I was home.

350 00:18:00,520 --> 00:18:04,089 I was in Jason's room, but all of his stuff was gone.

351 00:18:04,157 --> 00:18:05,916 That makes sense. He's in college, right?

352 00:18:05,951 --> 00:18:07,393 He still comes home for holidays.

353 00:18:07,460 --> 00:18:10,115 But in my vision, everything was gone

354 00:18:10,150 --> 00:18:12,403 and replaced by a young boy's things.

355 00:18:12,733 --> 00:18:16,153 He was about 8 or 9 years old, and I was putting him to bed.

356 00:18:16,436 --> 00:18:17,889 Good night, Mom.

357 00:18:18,138 --> 00:18:19,698 Good night, Attaf.

358 00:18:21,052 --> 00:18:22,563 And you've never seen this kid before?

359 00:18:23,234 --> 00:18:25,336 No. No, never.

360 00:18:25,949 --> 00:18:27,847 Look, people are saying these visions are real.

361 00:18:27,907 --> 00:18:31,116 So I don't know how, but in the next six months,

362 00:18:31,151 --> 00:18:32,991 this little boy's gonna come into my life,

363 00:18:33,063 --> 00:18:34,510 and I'm gonna be his mom.
