Symbolism[]
The clock is symbolic of time running out for Janis in two ways. First, time is running out for her in the sense that she is close to death in that episode, as she nearly dies at the end of "Gimme Some Truth" when she is shot by an assassin, and is only saved by the efforts of doctors Olivia Benford and Bryce Varley next episode. Secondly, the clock is also symbolic of her biological clock (the time from puberty to menopause, during which a woman is fertile and can bear children), as Janis saw herself pregnant in her flashforward; after the surgery to save her life, Janis's doctors inform her that it is likely that her injuries have left her unable to bear a child.
