The Vice President of the United States is an office in the executive branch of the government of the United States of America. The office is the second-highest position in the executive branch, after the President of the United States. The Vice President is first in the presidential line of succession and also President of the Senate.
The previous Vice President, Pratt, was killed or incapacitated when his plane went down during the Global Blackout. ("No More Good Days") ("Gimme Some Truth") Consequently, per the 25th Amendment to the United States Consitution, President Dave Segovia had to appoint a new Vice President. Segovia chose Senator Clemente, and she was sworn in. ("Gimme Some Truth")
